Mercury is going retrograde in Scorpio on October 21st 2013…
Welcome this retrograde as an opportunity to cleanse the mental realms and let go of the mental clutter and baggage.
Know that it’s a time to clear the decks so we can access, check in, feel in and hone in what is resonating with us.
Try to strip away other influences, so you can get a clear picture of what feels right for you.
Then use your Mercurial thinking gifts to organize what you need to do next to move toward your dreams.
Here are the Astral Insights for this period and what we can expect.
From the wonderful Dipali Desai and her Celestial Space Astrology:
“Like a snake shedding its skin, this Mercury Retrograde in Scorpio provides us the prime opportunity to shed our perceptions, thinking and limitations within the mind.
“During the Mercury retrograde phase of about 3 weeks, it is a time to empty out the excess, extremes and floating debris within the mental energy body, mind and thought process.
“Reading so much information, half of it or more people never use! Can you imagine what you are storing and how that slows down your processing and having clarity of thought?
“This is a time where we can examine which perception, thought, idea, concept and information is empowering and helpful and which one will take us into the depths of fear and even terror. So consider this precious phase where we will shed outworn thoughts, stuck thinking and fixations within the mind.
“The usual comes up, delays in communication, snags or snafus in appointments. Be prepared and allow for plenty of time in between appointments, travel plans and so forth.
“Back up important computer files, triple check important documents before signing. This is not the best time to initiate new ideas, projects or plans. Wait and be patient.
“Mercury retrograde is not the cause…. of anything. As I’ve often mentioned and I will do so again, Planets in astrology and planetary cycles do not cause anything. They symbolize the phase of development within Consciousness. Providing the symbolic language and understanding for one to move through.
“When you use the correct language and description, you set new energies in motion. If you keep talking about things in a way that is limiting and negative, so too will be things manifesting in the mind and life. You are encouraged to talk about and think about this phase with a sense of curiosity and interest.
“It is a necessary phase for the downtime of the mental energy to rejuvenate.
“Mercury retrograde in Scorpio reminds each to practice letting go and forgiveness. Instead of holding onto knots of lack of forgiveness which become toxic, let go.
“Allow healing to take place through shifting perception and forgiveness of an open heart so you can free yourself of mental knots of anxiety and toxins. The higher level of Scorpio is the Eagle and through a highly trained and sharp Soul-level vision… one chooses to let go, heal and transform…”
“Mercury goes retrograde in Scorpio making a fabulously delicious ‘Trine’ aspect to Jupiter in Cancer. This suggests harmony, grace and expanded flow of intuitive insights. Communications carry the vibe of optimistic, benevolence and possible joy...”
“Use the three weeks of the Mercury Retrograde phase to reawaken, restore, reflect, review, redo and so forth, all the “re” activities under a Mercury Retrograde is the way to go. There may be many insights that manifest.”
“Mercury in Scorpio’s symbolic gifts is renewal and metamorphosis within the mental energy and mind. We can let go of the excess and extremes and feel lighter and a sense of being reborn.
“Clarity of thought, new inspired ideas and heightened intuition may happen as a result of clearing away and healing under the retrograde phase.

And from astrologer Chad Woodward from Kosmic Mind:
“Mercury retrograde reveals that this is a time for making critical adjustments within very deep chambers…”
“… if you approach this passage with maturity, discipline and focus—you will reap the valuable rewards and revealing insights it offers– all in due (and lengthy) time (it is Saturn we’re dealing with here). A critical and sharp focus and an eye for miniscule details will be required.
“This retrograde cycle brings about a hyperaware state of consciousness… and an introspective gaze and focus.
“Saturn’s involvement lends well to a process of reflection and a bout of solitary confinement. So, unlike many retrograde cycles, this one isn’t much of a break or vacation; there’s important work do be done…”
“Mercury retrograde is not conducive for active forward movement; it’s a time for reflection and for making adjustments where needed. Usually, the more we push the more resistance we encounter…”
“Often, a specific outlook needs to change. We attract people or situations which seek to bring our attention to this need. Let go of the old and make way for the new—it will make you a more complete being.”
“Take stock, double check, and reiterate everything you communicate. This is a time to be clear and direct in your dealings…”
“If you’ve been delaying or putting aside something, a Mercury retrograde cycle often serves as an opportunity to deal with it—sort of like a second chance. Often this comes together without much planning or foresight, it seems to be a natural consequence of Mercury retrograde. “
“…don’t panic, worry or freak out…it could serve as a rather productive and insightful period of time.”

Hi! :)
This is all really new for me. Elenore, from Earthsprout, recommended your site and i’ve been coming here almost everyday since. Honestly, I never thought I would. Maybe because I never really found a place like yours. It feels right. It resonates. Thank you so much for the love and light.
Things have been happening in my life. There’s a connection. And I no longer can afford to live ignoring it.
But I’m at a loss. I don’t know a single thing. How to do things right.
For example: I was planning to open my website this month, the 27th, but now I read this and I wonder. Should I wait?
I really could use some advice…Could you help me please? Is the 27th such a bad day to start something?
This project is so important to me.
Thank you. :)

Darling Kurz, In our society we are taught there is a ‘right’ way or a ‘wrong’ about everything. That is a difficult thought to hold because reality does not mirror that. Like my medicine teacher says, the stronger the medicine, the stronger it can also act as a poison… what may be good for someone, say using a DE-fibulratoer, can save a life, yet on a healthy person will kill them. Extreme example but only some things are good or bad. and in astrology it will often depend on what yr birthchart is, like i found this Aries full moon to be invogorating and uplifting as i need more Aries in my chart, (fingerprint) wherea my friends with too much Aries aspected already had a harder time because it was amplified! so the 27th is a fine time to just do it, don’t take astro as god, it is reality mixed with planetary influence. sure, you will come to undertstand over time to maybe not have a massive party on a dark moon! (prefer as a good time to go within) or certain full moons and how they might influence the creatures (humans) around you, but just learn and learn to apply it yourself. Like knowing when venus rises to greet the venus goddess in yourself and feel that! Parkers astro book, and sites like these are the best place to learn! have fun! there is no doomsday ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ just shifting patterns. bless.

@KURTZ You have the answers inside you. If you ask and listen you will always be guided as what to do next. Astrology charts the larger patterns of consciousness that are at play within a given time. They map the energetic waves and to become aware of them can help us better navigate the tides. But as BELL mentioned for each individual it is different, and we have to do what is right for us.
I am not an astrologer but I do know the consensus is that this is usually not the ideal time to initiate projects, because of mishaps that can happen in communication, agreements, legalities, etc. So I know most would probably advice to wait, if it possible.
If it is not possible, then just make sure to re-check details, and double check everything and go for it! Lastly, if you still feel unsure, I would advice a reading or even mini-reading with some of the astrologers I feature on the site like Dipali Desai for example. I know she offers this, like if you have a particular question. She might be able to address your unique situation better. I hope that helps! Don’t worry you are on your way, trust the timing that is right for you. I wish for you many blessings and success in your new endeavors~~~

Is it possible to examine oneself too much during the retrograde? I had a really strong and profound experience during the shadow period and very much want to understand what the Universe is trying to tell me. I truly seek to love myself, invite joy into my life, and be a better person, should I be trying to implement this now or wait till after November 10. I feel like everything I due now is just leading me to anxious feelings and discomfort, too much in the head and confusion. Thank you for this amazing article. This site is a blessing and a gift.

Wow, after reading this, I’m beginning to think I’ve been in the retrograde all of today. Isn’t that called the shadow of the retrograde, or something? My partner calls it the turbulent period, when Mercury is putting on the brakes and about to go retrograde. Anyway, I haven’t been able to get anything together and have felt drifty, but also okay, and really tuning in to mother nature. I have to take my car in tomorrow for a major opinion on its fate, but I’m just looking at it like, the issue was there all along, it’s just coming to the surface right now. Thanks so much for this loving space.

So I’ve been dreading this retrograde all year! Mostly because last years is still fresh in my soul. We experienced many difficulties with our computer (which was a nice cleanse from the social networks), my husbands job, and my three young children were very sick with whooping cough or something very similar. My baby was only a couple weeks old when she contracted it so it was super scary as well as with my then 1 year old son. I realize mercury retrograde isn’t the cause of anything but nothing got better until it was done. I am fully prepared for illness this go about and I’m pretty sure I’m just writing this to get it out of my system and move on. My goal for the next three weeks is to think of positives in health wealth and well being and enjoy my children :)

Gratitude for your guidance…. As a lifetime astrologer, student of Steven Forrest, and practitioner of shamanism, with Saturn conjoining my natal Venus-Sun-Merc. in the 5th Hs, I’m preparing myself for the turning of forces within. What I see being played out in both personal and transpersonal arenas is the emergence of the deep masculine in response to the lack of initiation in men. It’s all about the absent father…we need to look no further than our present President or any of the damaged tie-strangled yanked out men in power. The unasked question – “What ever happened to the Earth Father?”…. the now demonized once playful and sexy earth masculine… personified by Pan and twisted into the devil by Christian zealots…Well…Daddy is coming up and he isn’t happy with the way the mother has been treated. I hear the erynes has been released to haunt the dreams of the deluded. Pluto, meanwhile, is very busy dismantling the old Saturnian structures (political, religious, economic, domestic) which are obsolete…Uranus is busy with sudden climatic surprises and innovative permaculture restoration techniques gleaned from aboriginal perennial wisdom…and Saturn, the Time Spirit, will bring a more numinous definition of structure to our 3-D obsessed culture…proving that highly evolved societies are shamanic rather than technological. (UFOs are so low tech) We will reverse our polarities of belief as extraterrestrials become intraterrestrials and we open to awareness of elemental consciousness that is ancient and profound…As Steven Forrest says, “You don’t just have tea with Pluto.”…unless, of course, it is mushroom tea…. May I suggest you especially enjoy this Merc Retro by filling your world with “re-” words: remember…review….recall…return…repeat…reposition…and maybe re-trans-substanciate your sense of existence…

Dear John, I think a highly evolved society would find the greatest blend of technology and shamanism. Technology has been misused, but it is not inherently bad.Surely you use electricity and indoor plumbing?
Just a reality check! Have you tried to live without these things? I’m certainly not ready to haul buckets of water and ride horse drawn buggies. Technology if used with greater consciousness really frees up our time for introspection and the deeper work that needs to be done.

I love this article! Was experiencing so much resistance over the past few days.Yearning to stay inside and heal and cleanse, and yet fighting it with the ”too much to do” story. At one point I even thought, ”It feels like Mercury is retrograde!” For some reason I assumed it wasn’t, and I would have known. Not so, ha ha! I know now, though, and with positive and encouraging insight (even people’s comments are helpful!). Thank you so much!

Mystic Mama, Wow! What a wonderfully radiant, positive, optimistic view of this time. I’m feeling it. Each conflict is making me stronger, giving me opportunities to be patient, to find my truth, hold my ground, and shine light through the darkness in me. Thank you for sharing your perspective. Looking forward to more posts!

So that explains why I’ve been in the dumps lately specially late october. I’m usually such a happy person, seeing the good in all. But I’ve been depressed and crying at the drop of a hat. I want it to go away!!! I don’t like being unhappy. I want to be my old self again.
Oh well, I know I will. Just had to vent a bit.
